Some of you might be
wondering why I want to share about the positive side of EB. It has taken me a
long time to learn that the more positive you are, the more you get out of life. If
you sit around and talk and say negative things about yourself, you will start
feeling negative and give other people the wrong impression. A lot of people
don't want to hear negative stuff all the time.
All thou I have sores and I wear bandages I can still do what everyone
else can do, just in a different way.
I know some people with
EB find it hard to deal with it. But I try to see it in the good side/ the positive
side. I always wanted to learn how to knit, but I found it was hurting my
fingers so I stopped. Then one day I went to Michaels craft store, and found a
knitting machine and now I can knit again. All thou I don't knit with needles,
I have found a different way to knit. I
figure if I can knit, I can learn how to crochet too. I have been knitting and
crocheting for the last 7 years now.
Each week I help out at
a day care with kids who are between the ages 2 1/2 to 5. I read to the kids, play games and just have
fun. Some of them ask me about my skin but that is ok, because they are just
being kids. All I tell them is I was born with different kind of skin and that I
was born missing the glue that holds my skin together. That I get more boo boos than they do, but we
are all the same. I figure if you teach kids at a young age that it's ok to
accept people for who they are then they will pass it on.
As you can see I don't
let my EB stop me from doing stuff I like to do. My point is,
the more positive you are, the more people will understand and hopeful they
won’t feel sorry for me or other people
with EB. I would like people to understand what EB is, but not in a negative
way. I know I will get some flack about what I'm doing, but I just thought if I
say something positive, then maybe people will see there is still a good side of having EB.
Sarah, I think this is an awesome start to your blog. It is hard for some people to be positive with EB..understandably so. Your a role model. I look up to you and admire you. Your a great friend.
